Pembroke Pines, FL - A 16-year-old student lost his life after being struck by lightning while riding his bike on Wednesday.

The student, identified as Cameron Day, was found unresponsive near the 600 block of Southwest 67th Avenue.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud lightning strike and seeing Cameron lying motionless under a tree.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and discovered Cameron was in cardiac arrest.

Despite efforts from first responders, Day was pronounced dead at Memorial Regional Hospital.

Authorities say Day was a student at McArthur High School in Pembroke Pines.

McArthur High School Principal Mark Howard confirmed Day's passing and expressed his condolences to Cameron's family, friends, and the school community.

Howard also announced that grief counselors would be available on campus to support students and staff during this difficult time.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help Cameron's family with funeral expenses.
