"SNL" Getting Slammed Over Skit Poking Fun At Chappell Roan

"Saturday Night Live" is facing backlash for a skit during its Season 50 premiere this weekend, where Bowen Yang appeared as "Moo Deng," the viral baby hippo.

Fans say the skit made light of pop star Chappell Roan’s efforts to set boundaries with fans, referencing her August Instagram post about needing personal space outside of performing.

After the sketch aired, Roan’s fans criticized the show on social media, with some calling for her to cancel her upcoming musical guest appearance on Nov. 2. One fan tweeted, "SNL making fun of Chappell Roan for having boundaries and struggling with her mental health feels very gross."

Yang addressed the controversy on his Instagram, defending the skit and saying it was meant to support Roan, stating, “We both deserve patience and grace.”
