The Indianapolis Colts will start veteran Joe Flacco at quarterback the team listed starter Anthony Richardson on the inactive list for Sunday's (October 6) game against the AFC South Division rival Jacksonville Jaguars.

Flacco, 39, took over in the first quarter of last week's 27-24 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers after Richardson, 22, suffered hip and oblique injuries. The former Super Bowl champion threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 16 of 26 passing.

Richardson's absence was expected after he was downgraded from questionable to doubtful on Saturday (October 5). The Colts also included several other key players on their inactive list including running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle), defensive end Kwity Paye (quad), cornerback Kenny Moore II (hip), defensive end Samson Ebukam (Achilles), defensive end Tyquan Lewis (elbow), defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (ankle) and cornerback JuJu Brents (knee).

Flacco will make his first start for the Colts, his fifth team since 2019, having previously spent the first 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. The former Delaware standout previously took over as the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback for the team's final five games of the 2023 regular season, going 4-1 and clinching a playoff berth prior to a blowout loss to the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card round.

Flacco ranks 18th in NFL history with 44,104 career passing yards and tied for 28th with 247 passing touchdowns.
