RAWA Issues Conservation Notice

The Reading Area Water Authority (RAWA) has issued a mandatory conservation notice to its customers due to exceptionally low water levels. The notice, which is in effect until further notice, calls for a 10 to 15% reduction in water usage. The authority has prohibited activities such as watering lawns and outdoor areas, washing vehicles, filling or topping off pools, and any act of wasting water.

The conservation notice was issued due to a lack of precipitation over the past few months, which has led to low aquifer and lake levels. "We can't remember it this low," said Bill Murray, a representative from RAWA, in an interview with WFMZ.

The notice applies to the City of Reading and the surrounding service areas. RAWA has also provided water conservation tips on its website to help customers reduce their water usage.

The authority has reassured customers that fire services are not in jeopardy and that contingency plans are in place in case the situation worsens. "We've just got to pray for rain and get the water level up. It's that simple," Murray added.
