GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- About 96,700 Kent County voters cast their ballots early for the general election.
The county says it issued more than 151,000 absentee ballots. The return rate is nearly 89 percent on those.
On West Michigan's Morning News, Kent County Clerk & Register of Deeds Lisa Posthumus Lyons said there are more than just presidential candidates on today's election ballot.
"We've got some city council and city commission races. Every single township board is on the ballot. And, as you know, a lot of decisions that get made that impact you directly come from your local jurisdiction," she said.
You'll see candidates for state and county commission races on the ballot, plus judicial candidates' name and non-partisan questions.
"Sometimes, people get shocked when they get their ballot for the first time," Posthumus Lyons said. "Because you just don't think about anything but these big congressional and presidential races."
It might be a good idea to view a sample ballot online before you head to the polls. That may save you a lot of time once you are at your polling precinct. You can preview the ballot at michigan.gov/vote .
