A Black family in California is reeling from racist threats that were spray painted on their home and cars.
According to Fox 11, racist graffiti was found on Elizabeth Garbutt's Los Angeles home on Halloween night.
The spray-painted messages were filled with racial slurs and threats on her sidewalk and gate.
Photos obtained by Fox 11 show the phrases "N***** need to die" and "N**** home" written in black paint on a sidewalk.
"One of the messages on the sidewalk was ‘----- die.’ That's the one that really just touched me. I moved over to my car. It said ‘dumb ----.’ Then we moved on to the next one. One says ‘----- house.’ The next one said ‘die.’ The gate says ‘dumb -----.’ And the spelling is not even correct," Garbutt said.
Garbutt's family has been living in their home across from Crenshaw High School for over 30 years.
"My whole body just shut down. I had no means for words. All I could do was cry," Garbutt said.
It's unclear who the perpetrator was. The incident occurred in areas not covered by security cameras. Garbutt's family has filed a police report and hoping to get the attention of Mayor Karen Bass.
"To be afraid to be in your own house, that's not a good thing. It's very stressful. I don't understand why. Why our house was the reason," Garbutt said.
