(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A sinister plan that resulted in unspeakable trauma. That's how Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks described the death of Melody Hoffman.
Monday was the opening day of the murder trial of McKinley Louisma, accused of kidnapping, torturing and killing Hoffman in February.
Prosecutors played the 911 call made by the woman who found Hoffman's body by Lily Lake in Amana, and showed video of Louisma and accused accomplice Dakota Van Patten purchasing machetes and gloves at a local Walmart.
Van Patten's trial begins in March.
