The Republican Party gained control of the United States Senate after Senator Deb Fischer won re-election in Nebraska on Tuesday (November 5) night. Republicans managed to flip two seats, giving them a razor-thin majority in the upper chamber.

Her victory guarantees Republicans will have a one-seat majority in the Senate. There are still several races that have yet to be decided.

The first seat to flip was in West Virginia, where Jim Justice defeated Democrat Glenn Elliott. The seat was previously held by Democrat Joe Manchin, who decided to retire at the end of his term.

In Ohio, Republican Bernie Moreno unseated incumbent Sherrod Brown, who was seeking his fourth term as Senator.

Control of the House of Representatives still remains in the balance. As of 1 a.m. ET, the Republicans had picked up a total of two seats.

Former President Donald Trump won both states.

The race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris remains undecided as several states remain too close to call.
