Amelia and Sarabeth were born 6 weeks premature as thoracopagus conjoined twins At Mott’s Children Hospital. They spent 100 days their first year of life in ICU; then were sent home with Mom and Dad to grow and wait for their big surgery. They spent their first 14 months of life together conjoined; they learned to stand, crawl and balance as one body. On August 5th of 2020, they underwent an 11-hour separation surgery and spent approximately 30 days recovering in ICU before going home to relearn eating, breathing, and moving. They spent a lot of time in physical and occupational therapy and needed NG tubes up until they were 2 and 2 1/2 years old. Sarabeth still requires supplemental oxygen at bedtime, but no longer requires it for 24 hours a day as she previously required.
Now, the girls are 5-years-old, and very active in their kindergarten class! They have enjoyed two years of dance classes and have absolutely flourished. Amelia completed her first season of soccer and enjoyed every single second of it.
We are so excited to take her family to Disney World with the help of Jersey Mikes, Planet Fitness, Kroger, Masco, Emagine Theatres, Canterbury Village and our charitable partner Angels of Hope!
