More than 500 Bibles are on the way for Advanced Placement Government classrooms in Oklahoma. State School Superintendent Ryan Walters says they're important for those classes.
"Our kids have to understand the role the Bible played in influencing American history," said Walters.
The State Department of Education says this purchase is different from an upcoming Request for Proposals aimed at securing Bibles for every classroom. Those Bibles will include the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance and the U.S. Constitution. Walters says the state will not change history and the Bible is a major part of that.
