A California family received an unexpected gift after a troubling incident involving their 10-year-old autistic son, who was slapped by an irate driver earlier this year. Alfredo Morales‘s family had been living in their 2010 Ford F-150 and brought it to Airport Marina Ford in Los Angeles for repairs. Instead of fixing their old truck, the dealership gifted them a brand-new 2023 Ford Explorer, valued at around $36-thousand.
The dealership’s general manager, Dan Theroux, explains that given the family’s situation, living in their rundown vehicle and Alfredo’s experience, they felt gifting the car was the “right thing to do.” The family’s old truck required major repairs, including a new transmission and engine, making a new car a more fitting solution. The Ford Explorer also comes with a warranty to cover future maintenance.
This act of kindness stems from the now-viral video of Alfredo being struck by a man who’s now facing criminal charges. Since the incident, a crowdfunding has raised nearly $100-thousand for the family. Miguel Morales, Alfredo’s father, expressed deep gratitude for the support and noted that the family is now focused on securing permanent housing and plans to reopen their restaurant, which closed last summer.
