Relative Arrested In the Murder of a Spring Branch Man

Law enforcement officers have the nephew of a school district police dispatcher in jail Sunday evening after the apparent murder of his uncle on Friday.

Investigators say Jose Torres, 37, was found dead on the lawn of his home in the Spring Branch area of west Houston, a victim of gunshots.

On Sunday Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a Houston Police Department SWAT team arrived at the home of Torres's nephew, Antonio Guzman, 22, where he was arrested and taken to jail, to be charged with murder.

Torres was a dispatcher for the Spring Branch Independent School District Police Department, which offered condolences to Torres's family on Saturday and condemned the circumstances of his death as a "senseless act of violence while he worked to make a better life for his family."

The 22-year-old is expected to make a court appearance to answer the charges this week.
