Leaders in one Palm Beach County municipality will soon be debating whether or not to approve a large project for its community.
The Village of Wellington owns 70 acres of land near State Road 7 and Stribling Way, which is right next to the Mall at Wellington Green. Still, the village manager says having new retail, restaurants and a hotel as part of this new development would be a positive.
"We've heard from residents multiple times the need for some type of location like that, some type of use like that here in the western communities. And the desire to have that here so that there is not a need to travel south, north or east."
Jim Barnes tells CBS 12 News that the competition between the project, which would be called Wellington Village, and the mall would be good for both.
Residential housing and a private K through 12 school are also part of the plan.
It's in the early talking stages.
