(Washington, D.C.) -- The Midwest, including Iowa, is getting up to $1 Billion in federal grants to develop hydrogen energy hubs.
The U.S. Department of Energy is awarding the money for the Midwest Hydrogen Hub, which includes the industrial corridor of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.
The DOE says the plan will use renewable wind energy, natural gas with carbon capture, and nuclear energy to produce hydrogen energy with low or zero carbon emissions.
The project is expected to create about 12-thousand direct jobs in Iowa.
