"Wicked" Opening Tomorrow Will Have Sing-Along Screenings for Christmas

AMC Theatres has issued a strict warning to Wicked Fans: 'No Singing. No Wailing' during screenings.

The highly anticipated film officially opens tomorrow Friday, November 22 and AMC Theaters wanted to remind moviegoers to allow everyone to enjoy the movie by staying silent.

"No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting," a voiceover for the spot says, humorously tailored to moments from the upcoming big-screen Broadway adaptation. "And absolutely no name-calling. Enjoy the magic of movies."
AMC spokesperson Ryan Noonan told The Indianapolis Star in a Nov. 19 statement that the chain "has a long-standing policy that prohibits disruptive behavior." He additionally stated that the chain's Wicked pre-show spot "incorporates the themes of the film as a fun, engaging reminder to moviegoers to not disrupt the experience for those around them as they enjoy the show.

There has been many Tik Tok videos over people complaining of unwanted sing-a-longs during early screenings of the movie reported by Variety on Nov. 18 that roughly 1,000 cinemas in North America will offer interactive screenings of the movie beginning Dec. 25, almost one full month after the movie initially debuts.

This is a great opportunity for animated moviegoers to channel their inner Glinda and Elphaba during sing-along screenings of “Wicked.”

Though Interactive showings of Universal’s upcoming movie musical will be offered, exact plans, including the location count and showtimes, have yet to be finalized.

With these sing-along screenings, “Wicked” is following the music notes of other song-heavy theatrical hits like Hugh Jackman’s “The Greatest Showman” and the Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
