After suspending Trump's New York criminal case indefinitely and removing his sentencing from the schedule earlier in the week, Judge Juan Merchan has now granted a request by the President-elect to file a motion to dismiss the case.
Merchan gave Trump's team until December 2nd to file the motion for dismissal; he has given Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg until December 9th to respond to Trump's request.
Trump attorney and Deputy AG nominee Todd Blanche wrote in a letter to Merchan on Wednesday, saying that the Constitution mandates dismissal of the case. He also stated that continuing the case would be "uniquely destabilizing."
Both President-elect Trump and his legal team maintain that this case was nothing more than an attempt to influence the 2024 presidential election, which Trump won in a landslide on November 5th.
