Richland County to Open New Clerk of Courts’ Office and Grand Jury Room

The Richland County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first phase of a transformative, multi-year County building renovation that will enhance the efficiency and functionality of public services provided to Richland County residents and visitors. The completion of Phase 1 marks a key step in the continued effort to improve these services without borrowing funds to complete any of the three phases.

The first phase unveils several significant upgrades, including
: • A new Clerk of Courts’ Office will provide staff with necessary space to efficiently manage approximately 6,000 cases annually. The new location allows for streamlined operations, improved public service, and ensures that the Clerk of Courts’ Office is better equipped to handle the growing demands of a busy caseload.

• The first of 10 updated public restrooms located throughout the Richland County Administration Building will offer modernized facilities for both the public and staff. These upgrades maximize function and accessibility for restroom facilities that remained unimproved for several decades.

• A new conference room features nearly 1,400 square feet of meeting space for County business including the regular meetings of the Richland County Grand Jury. This wellequipped space offers a larger and more comfortable area for grand jurors to deliberate, and it reflects Richland County’s ongoing commitment to the justice system and public safety.

The completion of Phase1, which opens to the public on Monday, November 25th, also sets the stage for the construction of an additional courtroom (Phase 2) for the Common Pleas Court General Division scheduled to open in 2025. The new courtroom will increase the total number of available courtrooms eliminating delays in the Court’s docket due to lack of space for trials and hearings. Phase 3, running concurrently with Phase 2, will include renovations to the Land Bank public meeting room and offices. This Phase will also include updates to the building’s 9 remaining original public restrooms, the building’s common areas, the Adult Probation training room, and improved staff amenities.

The Board of Commissioners is proud to undertake this endeavor without incurring debt, and these investments will have a lasting positive impact for Richland County.
