Steve Perry has just released an all-new song from his Christmas album, ‘The Season 3.’ This latest track is a cover of “Call Me Irresponsible,” a classic tune famously recorded by legends like Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and Brenda Lee. Perry’s version is particularly special because it features his late father, Ray Perry, who was also a singer. Steve recently discovered a karaoke cassette his dad sent him back in 1993, and the song that touched him the most was “Call Me Irresponsible.” Although the karaoke track wasn’t great, his father’s voice was as strong as ever.
Using modern technology, Perry was able to extract his father’s voice from the cassette and record beautiful new music around it. This allowed him to fulfill a long-held dream of singing with his father, despite their limited time together after his parents divorced when he was seven. Perry described the experience as incredibly emotional, saying, “Singing with my father after all these years was a very emotional experience for me. His voice was just as I remembered it as a child.” At the end of the cassette, his father says, “Merry Christmas, God Love Ya,” which brought tears to Perry’s eyes.
An animated video for the song is now available on YouTube, adding a visual element to this touching musical reunion. The Season 3 is out now and marks Perry’s first release on the late George Harrison’s Dark Horse Records. Perry is excited about the future, saying, “I've so much music in me that has yet to be heard. To be able to work with a team of people who support and respect my creative expressions is a dream come true.”
