Just One Thing: Trump nominates Scott Bessent for Treasury Secretary
Scott Bessent is Donald Trump’s nominee for Treasury Secretary. He’s a 62-year old hedge fund manager who previously worked for Soros Fund Management, is openly gay, and has donated to lots of Democrats although he switched to supporting Republicans about 15 years ago. He was part of the Soros team that made one of the famous and profitable trades of all time, shorting the British pound and essentially forcing the UK to devalue their currency. You can see what Trump likes here: They’re both former Democrats and former Democrat donors who soured on the party. Trump likes a guy who gambles and wins. And contrary to the fears of the left, I don’t think Trump is in the least bit anti-gay. The main thing I hope is that Bessent will push Trump toward fiscal discipline and away from tariffs, but the latter is unfortunately doubtful.

Today's Guests
Mark Mix is president of the National Right to Work Committee. His group has been warning against a possible Trump nomination of Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR) as Secretary of Labor because she was one of only 3 Republicans to support the horrific "PRO Act" which is designed to strengthen labor unions and end right-to-work laws across the country. She served one term in Congress before losing re-election a few weeks ago. This weekend, Trump nominated Chavez-DeRemer for Labor Secretary. It's payback to the Teamsters for not endorsing anyone in the presidential race and it's a gift to the worst organizations (at least among organizations that aren't illegal) in America: teachers unions. It's hard to imagine a worse choice by a Republican president.

Amelia Nierenberg is a London-based reporter for the NY Times. I was fascinated by her recent story of a woman who made her way into a prestigious organization of magicians by pretending to be a man, then was found out, kicked out...and disappeared.

Not an entirely ridiculous fear. I don't think Trump himself would support incursions into this area but some of his appointees might. Interesting, the agency most involved with abortion medications, FDA, is a division of HHS for which the hardcore pro-abortion-rights RFK Jr is the current nominee, and the nominee to head FDA itself, Dr Marty Makary (a repeat guest on my show), may also be pro-choice, etc: Patients rush to get reproductive care before Trump takes office

I guess this is good as long as it's not a magnet for more migrants. But it should never have been a problem. It was one because Joe Biden opened the border and Denver advertised being "welcoming" in a way that meant "we'll spend taxpayer money on you." Of course the governor of Texas shipped the illegals here but he did it because Denver sold itself as wanting them, which is a lovely gesture when it doesn't really matter but not so nice when they take you up on it en masse.
