FLORIDA - AAA's free "Tow to Go" program offers safe rides home during Thanksgiving to prevent impaired driving and enhance road safety in Florida and select states.
As Thanksgiving celebrations approach, AAA has reintroduced its "Tow to Go" program, offering free towing services to help keep impaired drivers off the road and ensure a safer holiday for everyone.
The program, which is available to both AAA members and non-members, is active in Florida and several other states, providing a valuable resource for those who may find themselves without a safe ride home.
The service will run from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, through 6 a.m. on Monday, December 2.
It allows impaired drivers to call for a tow truck that will transport both the individual and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius.
This service is completely free of charge, emphasizing AAA’s commitment to reducing accidents and fatalities caused by impaired driving during the busy holiday period.
"Tow to Go" is not exclusive to Florida; it is also available in Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Colorado (Denver), North Carolina (Charlotte), and Indiana (Fort Wayne/South Bend).
AAA encourages people to use this program only as a last resort if other transportation options are unavailable.
AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins highlights the importance of this initiative, stating, “Tow to Go serves as that last line of defense in keeping impaired drivers off the road.”
He also urges people to plan ahead and arrange for a safe ride if alcohol consumption is part of their holiday plans.
To use the "Tow to Go" service, individuals can call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.
While the service does not require prior appointments, its availability may be impacted by weather conditions and high demand.
As part of its broader effort to promote road safety, AAA recommends that partygoers designate a sober driver, utilize ride-sharing services, or plan ahead for transportation to avoid driving under the influence.
By offering "Tow to Go," AAA aims to reduce the risks of impaired driving and make Thanksgiving a safer holiday for everyone on the roads.
