I am writing this letter to inform you that I am resigning my position as Head Football Coach
immediately.
I want to thank the administrators, yourself, and the school board for giving me the pleasure of leading
the Defiance Football Program for the last 4 years. I will forever cherish being given the opportunity to
hold a position that I dreamed about when I first was hired here as an assistant coach in 2003. I wanted
to help get Defiance back to winning football games and being well-respected in the WBL and in NW
Ohio. I am very proud of the progress and success that we have achieved over the past 4 years. This is
a very difficult decision for me because I love Defiance Football, my phenomenal assistants, and the
great young men I have had the privilege of coaching. I have been coaching football for each of the past
22 years and 15 of those as a head football coach. I don’t know how to coach any other way than being
“all in” and spending every single day of the year working on something to make our program better
than the day before. Earlier in my career, I always relished the wins, but over the past few years my
feeling after wins, was more of relief. I absolutely love game planning and coaching on Friday nights,
but everything that goes with it from December to August, that most don’t see, is what has led me to this
decision. For the first time in my career, I need to take some time away from coaching to recharge. I
owe that to the players, my assistants, my wife, my family, my friends, and myself. I hope you all
understand. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Travis J. Cooper
