(Iowa) -- Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is partnering Senator Todd Young of Indiana in an effort to resolve a trade dispute with Colombia over U.S. corn exports.
Colombia claims that the U.S. has subsidies on corn exports, which they are investigating. That investigation could result in tariffs on corn exported from the U.S. Grassley and Young sent a letter to U.S. Agriculture Secretary and former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack and a U.S. trade representative to arrange diplomatic talks with representatives from the U.S. and Colombia.
Grassley says U.S. corn exports are vital to the Colombian market. Between October of 2023 and July of 2024, U.S. corn exports made up more than 96% of Colombia's corn imports.
