An Illinois family has extended their Thanksgiving invitation to a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier and his family after the carrier came to the aid of a family member. Guy and Marcia Miller of Aurora, Illinois, are welcoming mail carrier Jaylen Lockhart and his family to their home for the holiday. The invitation comes after Lockhart helped Guy Miller, who fell while walking his dog, Bentley, on November 16.
Lockhart, 26, was working as a substitute mail carrier that day and had not previously met the Millers. He noticed Guy Miller losing his balance and rushed to his aid. "I was on my mail route, looking at my rearview mirror, and I saw that Guy was losing his balance. He eventually did fall and took his tumble," Lockhart told Good Morning America.
Guy Miller, who has diabetes, recalls losing his balance and struggling to get back up before Lockhart arrived. Lockhart quickly alerted neighbors and guided Guy Miller back home. Their daughter, Ashley Roberts, a nurse, came over to check on her father and found no serious injuries.
The Millers connected with Lockhart and his family the following day and have since formed a close bond.
"He took the time to come get family, and so, because of it, we've become family, truly," Marcia Miller told ABC News.
The Millers are looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with the Lockharts, with games and good food planned for the occasion.
