(Honey Creek, IA) -- Mt. Crescent Ski Area in the Loess Hills is beginning its snow making process for the year. That's according to a post on social media.

Pottawattamie County bought the area from private ownership in 2022. Joel Bryan, who owns Seven Oaks in central Iowa, says he believes Mt. Crescent is better because of the sale.

"They are definitely spending some money on infrastructure and they have understood that it takes a robust snow making system," Bryan says.

He says it's not an easy business to run, so the right ownership makes a difference.

"The pump house they put in and the snow makers that they're purchasing are top notch," Bryan says. "So, I think it's going to be a lot better run than it was before and a lot of that comes back to passion."

Mt. Crescent does not yet know its opening date for the 2024-25 season.
