The latest College Football Playoff rankings have the Boise State Broncos ranked 10th, but slated for a first round bye with a 4th seed in the playoffs. Doug Gottlieb thinks this is a ridiculous turn of events. While providing an opportunity for smaller schools to compete is one of the main reasons stated for expanding the CFP to 12 teams in the first place, artificially boosting their seeding to give them a bye is a step too far.
Doug Gottlieb: “Of course I’ll champion the champions of the small conferences. They should be in the field of 68, and one non-Power 4 (school) should be in the field of 12. But a top 4 seed, like what are we doing here?”
