An Ohio family is seeking answers after a 15-year-old Black teenager was killed by Akron police, Scripps News Cleveland reports.

Jazmir Tucker, 15, was fatally shot by an Akron police officer around 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Akron police said two patrol officers were parked in a marked cruiser when they heard gunshots go off nearby.

The two officers exited their vehicle and encountered Jazmir, who had a loaded gun, according to police. One of the officers shot the teenager.

Jazmir was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Jazmir's grandfather, Gary Green, said he believes his grandson was walking to his brother's house when he was shot. It's unclear whether Jazmir pointed a gun at the officer or if he fired the shots the officers initially heard.

"Give us some answers. Why did you have to shoot my grandson like that?" Green said.

When asked if he knew about Jazmir having a gun, Green said, "No, these kids out here, they have a gun for their protection because all this radical stuff going on in Akron."

The two officers involved in the incident have been put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
