Lil Durk's first attempt at getting bail was denied even after his legal team presented a $3 million bond package.
On Thursday, December 12, the Chicago rapper's attorney filed a motion for pretrial release which could allow his client to await trial outside of jail. Durk's attorneys argued that the "All My Life" rapper is a community leader and had received bond in the past for his 2019 criminal case which was later dismissed. They also offered a bond package that included $2.3 million from Durk's two homes in Georgia and $1 million from his record label. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to convince the judge.
According to the Chicago Tribune, prosecutors argued that the bond package was "woefully inadequate" and maintained Durk is a flight risk. They also presented information about newly unsealed court documents that reportedly connect Durk to another fatal shooting in Chicago. The unsealed filing from April 2023 alleged the Only The Family founder was behind the death of Stephon Mack, who was a leader of the Gangster Disciples.
Mack was shot and killed in 2022 after he left a community center in Chicago. The shooting happened a year after Durk's brother Derrick "DThang" Banks was allegedly shot and killed by a member of the Gangster Disciples with ties to Mack's Smallville faction. Durk was only named in the unsealed documents. He has yet to face charges in that case, however, police are still investigating it.
“Evidence collected in this case also shows (the) defendant has allegedly placed monetary bounties to solicit other murders, including a family member of a witness,” prosecutors argued. “Defendant’s modus operandi is clear: he will use his power, his money, his influence, and any pretrial release to endanger anyone who he perceives as a threat, including witnesses in this case.”
Durk was arrested on October 24 and charged with conspiracy to use interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death. He was accused of ordering five OTF affiliates to kill Quando Rondo in August 2022. As the hit was being carried out, one of the men allegedly shot and killed Quando Rondo's cousin Saviay’a Robinson a.k.a. Lul Pab. Durk and the other men will remain in custody for the time being.
According to The Breakfast Club, Durk's attorneys will make another attempt to bail out Durk. See what they had to say about the situation below.
