Kelsea Ballerini and Carly Pearce put their own spin on a viral Wicked trend on TikTok on Monday morning (December 16). Pearce hailed Ballerini “my ride or die” as the duo re-created the song performed by Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo backstage at the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.
Erivo plays Elphaba, who goes on to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West in the beloved novel and film The Wizard of Oz, and Grande scored her dream role of Glinda in the highly-anticipated movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. Wicked tells the story of “Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, (as they) become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.”
The Jon M. Chu-directed film premiered in theaters last month. Wicked also stars Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode and others in the star-studded cast. The movie that just premiered is the first part of Wicked, and the second movie is set to release next year.
