Soundgarden's surviving members Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd reunited over the weekend to play a benefit show for the Seattle Children's Hospital uncompensated care fund at the Showbox. The trio was joined by Shaina Shepherd on vocals, with Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan making an appearance for a few songs.
The band went by the name Nudedragons, which is an anagram of Soundgarden. The group also used the moniker in 2010 when they played their first show in 13 years. The six-song set was heavy on Soundgarden's early releases. They played “Flower” and “Beyond the Wheel” from their debut album Ultramega OK; “Hunted Down” from the Screaming Life EP; “Outshined” from Badmotorfinger; and “Kickstand,” off Superunknown. McKagan provided additional vocals during "Kickstand" and also contributed to the final song of the performance—a cover of MC5's “Kick Out the Jams.”
This was the third time the former bandmates have all played together since Chris Cornell's tragic passing in 2017. They performed together during his tribute concert in 2019 and again with Brandi Carlile in 2021, when they backed the singer-songwriter for covers of “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed.”
