Sad news for fans of the 1986 hit film Crocodile Dundee - one of the movie's biggest stars has died. Burt, the nearly 17-foot-long crocodile from the flick, passed away at his home in Australia over the weekend. The 1,500 pound creature was thought to be over 90 years old.

The herpetarium and aquarium where Burt has lived since 2008, Crocosaurus Cove, announced the sad news on social media. They wrote, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Burt, the iconic Saltwater crocodile and star of the Australian classic Crocodile Dundee. Burt passed away peacefully over the weekend, estimated to be over 90 years old, marking the end of an incredible era." They referred to Burt as "one of the most recognized crocodiles in the world."

They went on to say, "Burt was truly one of a kind. He wasn't just a crocodile; he was a force of nature and a reminder of the power and majesty of these incredible creatures."

Along with his starring role in Crocodile Dundee, Burt was also the basis for the digital crocodile in the 2007 movie Rogue. Crocosaurus Cove will honor the late croc with a commemorative sign. As yet, Burt's co-stars, 85-year-old Paul Hogan and 66-year-old Linda Kozlowski, have not yet commented on his passing.
