Parking Fines Rising In Barnstable On January First

Parking fines will be rising in the town of Barnstable in January.

The fines for illegally parking in a handicapped spot or a fire lane will be doubled from 100 to 200-dollars in the new year.

The fines for all other parking violations in town will jump from 40 to 50 dollars.

Town officials say the goal is to protect access points for the disabled and first responders, and to increase compliance with parking rules.
