The 2025 Grammys will be filled with tributes to our music icons!
The Recording Academy announced late last week that Prince & Frankie Beverly will posthumously receive Lifetime Achievement Awards. I didn’t realize Prince hadn’t received that award already over his long, amazing career or since his passing back in 2016 but I’m happy that they’re finally honoring him for the way he left his mark on not only R&B but funk, pop and rock. And of course, we just lost Frankie Beverly, founder and lead singer of Maze, in September whose music kept the family reunion poppin’ and live shows thrilled audiences for decades.
This year’s list of honorees includes more artists who shaped the music industry over the decades, including one of hip-hop’s first female acts, Roxanne Chante, gospel icon Dr. Bobby Jones, blues great Taj Mahal, The Clash and pop superstar Frankie Valli.
The Recording Academy created the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1962, and previous recipients include Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis and The Beatles. The Special Merit Awards ceremony will be held on February 1st during Grammy Week, and the 67th Annual Grammy Awards will be Sunday, February 2nd in Los Angeles.
