AAA Outlines Best And Worst Travel Times Between Christmas And New Year's

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you are traveling home on Thursday or Friday after your holiday gathering, you can expect a lot of company on the roads.  

According to AAA, the best time for travel on Thursday is before 11 a.m. or after 5 p.m. AAA said that the worst time to be on the roads is between noon and 5 p.m.

On Friday, the best time for travel is before 2 p.m. or after 7 p.m. AAA predicted that the worst time to be on the roads is in the afternoon between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.  

Over the weekend, the best time for travel is before 11 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with AAA predicting the worst time to be on the roads to be between 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and between noon and 6 p.m., Sunday.  

Looking ahead to next week, AAA says that the best time for travel is before 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, with the worst times between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.  

AAA predicts the last day of 2024 to have light congestion on the roads, with minimal traffic impact expected on Tuesday Dec. 31.  

The first day of 2025 is also predicted to have light congestion on the roads, with a similar minimal traffic impact expected on Wednesday, Jan. 1.  

AAA predicted the 2024 holiday season to be one of the busiest for travel on record, with 119.3 million people across the country expected to travel 50 miles or more between Dec. 21 and Jan. 1.
