Today is the first day of Kwanzaa, the 7-day celebration of African-American culture, observed from December 26th through January 1st.
There’s a principle that guides each day and today’s is Umoja, which means unity. And you can practice that principle by gathering together with those you love… including at several events in the area celebrating the start of the holiday.
Malcom X College is hosting a celebration and marketplace today from 10am-6pm and it will happen each day through January 1st, with drum call, dance performances, lighting of candles and shopping.
The Bronzeville Children’s Museum (9301 South Stony Island Avenue, Chicago) are hosting their Kwanzaa Celebration today from 1- 3pm, with storytelling, music, face painting, and a visit from the Kwanzaa King.
