Miami-Dade, FL - Miami-Dade County is offering its residents convenient ways to recycle their natural Christmas trees through its annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program.
Starting December 26th, the Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) encourages residents to take advantage of this eco-friendly initiative to properly dispose of their Christmas trees and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The program is open to residents of single-family homes in unincorporated Miami-Dade County as well as in select municipalities, including Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Opa-locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Sunny Isles Beach, and Sweetwater.
Residents are encouraged to drop off their clean, undecorated natural Christmas trees at any of the county’s designated Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs).
These centers operate daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and include locations such as North Dade, Norwood, Palm Springs North, Golden Glades, West Little River, Snapper Creek, Sunset Kendall, West Perrine, Eureka Drive, South Miami Heights, and Moody Drive.
Another option for drop-off is the West Miami-Dade Home Chemical Collection Center, also open daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
For those who cannot drop off their trees, curbside collection is available on a specific schedule.
The first round of collection will run from January 8th to January 19th, with pick-ups on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
To ensure collection, residents must place their trees at the curb by January 8. A second and final round of curbside collection will take place from January 22nd to February 2nd, following the same schedule and requiring placement of trees by January 22.
Importantly, residents should avoid placing whole or cut-up trees in their green garbage or blue recycling carts.
Recycled Christmas trees will be turned into mulch, which will later be made available to residents for free at various Trash and Recycling Centers.
Starting in the spring, residents can pick up mulch by showing proof of residency.
Those interested in receiving notifications about mulch availability can sign up for updates on Miami-Dade County's website.
Alternatively, residents may opt to use one of their scheduled bulky waste pickups to dispose of their Christmas trees.
