(Ankeny, IA) -- Staff at Des Moines Area Community College have been busy scrubbing their old logo from multiple campus locations, including Ankeny, West Des Moines, and Boone.

The process of removal has been a large undertaking, according to Erica Spiller, Vice President, Student Affairs at DMACC.

"Our logos are on things like billboards, and uniforms of our security officers, many promotional materials, flyers, things like that," Spiller said. "We're at thirteen different locations, we have over 60 buildings, over five hundred classrooms and public spaces to get through."

It comes after a lawsuit by Drake University accusing DMACC of creating a new logo that replicates the one currently used by Drake.

DMACC says it is complying with a recent a injunction forcing them to remove the new logo, while at the same time appealing the case.

In a recent motion, DMACC is requesting that Drake increase its bond amount in the case from $25,000 to $250,000 to cover costs of logo removal if DMACC is successful in its appeal.

“We have acted swiftly and in good faith throughout this process,” said Rob Denson, president of DMACC, as part of a press release on Friday. “However, our organization is significantly larger than the private university plaintiff. The increase in the injunction bond is necessary because it was more costly and time-consuming for us to comply.”

Additionally, attorneys for DMACC also filed a compliance update for the preliminary injunction and a resistance to Drake’s application to show cause.

“Despite the lawsuit,” Denson said, “we will not lose sight of our focus on serving our students.”
