Longtime Miami Hurricanes Men’s Head Basketball Coach Jim Larranaga announced he is stepping down and he cites N.I.L. and transfer portal changes as the main reason he is leaving the sport. He thinks everything has become too professional for his liking, but Doug explains that the opposite is actually true; N.I.L. and the transfer portal have turned college sports in amateur hour.
Doug Gottlieb: “It’s amateur hour because you can’t hold players to an actual contract. High school players that sign a national letter of intent, for one; you’re kind of silly to recruit too many of them. And two; it’s not legally binding anymore because the NCAA will bow down to anybody’s whims of get out of it.”
