Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is among those paying tribute to Former President Jimmy Carter. In a statement posted on social media, Shapiro remembered Carter as a "humble, generous, and admirable public servant" both as president and in the years after. Carter died yesterday at the age of 100. The governor has ordered flags across the commonwealth be lowered to half-staff until January 28th to honor the 39th president.

Hundreds of Met Ed customers in Northampton County are still waiting for the lights to come back on. The utility says more than 300 customers near Cedarville Road and the Williamsport neighborhood remain without power. According to WFMZ-TV, more than 13-hundred customers were without electricity at the peak of the outage Sunday afternoon. The cause of the outage is being investigated.
Cases of whooping cough continue to rise across Pennsylvania. The latest data from the CDC shows more than 32-thousand cases nationwide, an amount which is six times greater than at this time last year. Pennsylvania is reporting the highest number of cases nationwide, with more than 28-hundred confirmed cases as of last week. As always, the CDC recommends vaccination as the best way to prevent getting whooping cough.
The Pennsylvania State Police today released its crash and enforcement report for the 2024 Christmas travel period. From Dec. 24 to 26, PSP investigated 495 crashes, resulting in one death and 81 injuries. Impaired driving was a factor in 27 of these crashes. During those three days, troopers arrested 138 individuals for driving under the influence.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is starting off 2025 with an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. The department is offering First Day Hikes at 46 state parks and one forest district on New Year's Day. The guided walks are typically one to two miles and are meant to promote healthy lifestyles. Participation in some of the events requires registration through the DCNR webpage.
Penn State's head football coach thinks a former SEC legend should run the sport. James Franklin told the media on Sunday that Nick Saban should become college football's first-ever commissioner. He said Saban would be the "obvious" choice for a leader who can make decisions that are in the best interest of the sport. The former Alabama coach won seven national championships over his 28-year career. Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin also endorsed Saban for a commissioner role if one was created.
The Eagles are once again taking home the NFC East crown. The team clinched the division for the second straight season after blowing out the rival Cowboys 41-7 from Lincoln Financial Field. Saquon Barkley became the ninth player in league history to surpass two-thousand rushing yards in a season after carrying the rock 31 times for 167 yards. "We felt that this would be the best place for me and one thing we wanted to do was to be part of a great team and I felt I wanted to help my legacy and my name and accomplishing a milestone like that definitely adds to that," Barkley said. The Eagles are now 13-3.
