At least fifteen people are dead and dozens are injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd on New Orleans famous Bourbon Street.

The FBI says it's investigating the event as an act of terrorism.

A truck plowed into a group of people celebrating New Year's in the French Quarter this morning just after 3:15 a.m., and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, with police returning fire.

The suspect is dead and has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year old U.S. citizen from Texas.

The FBI said an ISIS flag was found in the truck, which appeared to have been rented. Authorities are trying to determine how Jabbar obtained the vehicle.

"Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter," added the bureau. "The FBI’s Special Agent Bomb Technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable and they will work to render those devices safe."

New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said two officers were shot but are in stable condition.

The FBI asks anyone with information or video of the attack to reach out via a digital tip line or by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI.
