The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde may look angry most of the time, but she says she had a good year.
She has posted on her socials her "personal highlights of 2024." She writes, "My end of ’24 good wishes to all. I always look forward to a new beginning and here we go. Thanks again to all of you who came to see us on tour.
"In case anybody is interested - here’s my personal highlights of ’24:
Live show: Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium, London... Beautiful and inspiring. Timeless music... And... Okean Elzy at The Forum London... Ukraine’s number one rock band in it’s full glory.
Film: Conclave….. I’ve seen it in the cinema three times already. Gorgeous thriller. Definitely one for the big screen. Breathtaking visuals and much more… (I’ll say no more because I don’t want to spoil it for you.)
Television Series: Wolf Hall ... seriously mind blowing in every way. WOW! (plus I got to meet Damian Lewis (aka Henry VIII) at the Mark Lanegan show - see below).
Documentary: James Brown Mr. Dynamite. I’m not sure if this was a recent documentary, but JB, in my opinion, was globally the most influential artist ever. Endlessly watchable and listenable.
Show I’ve been involved in: Mark Lanegan tribute at the Roundhouse London... A heartfelt celebration of the late artist’s music...
Art exhibition: Van Gogh at the National Gallery London... (apart from hundreds of dumb-asses holding their phones up and obscuring the view of this painterly genius’s work) I was reeling with emotion at the level of human excellence the man reached.
Play: What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank at the Marylebone Theatre London. A timely, funny, sad portal into modern life as a Jew.
City: Warsaw… Been wanting to go there for years and it was even prettier than I imagined it would be.
Travel: The tour bus is home but trains still get my vote every time.
Book: Orbital by Samantha Harvey ... Deep, deep, deep insights in outer space.
Shopping: Stella McCartney on Old Bond Street London... I love everything about her... for the handbag junkie who loves animals.
Chrissie and The Pretenders will be back on the road in May in Latin America.
