Kingston police have released the name of the man who was struck and killed by a vehicle last Friday night (December 27, 2024). Seventy-seven-year-old Gary White was crossing Broadway from the corner of Orchard Street when he was hit by a 2012 GMC Terrain driven by 20-year-old Mallory Kitchen of Kingston. White was not in the pedestrian crosswalk at the time of the accident.

After the incident, White was rushed to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he died approximately eight hours later. The driver, Kitchen, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. No charges have been filed against her, and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the accident to contact the Kingston City Police Detective Division at 845-331-8404 or email Detective Jason Charest at jcharest@kingston-ny.gov. Alderwoman Michele Hirsch expressed her condolences to White's family and friends, acknowledging the impact of his passing on the community.

Mid-Hudson News and Hudson Valley One reported that Kitchen is the daughter of Eric Kitchen, Kingston's Zoning Officer and an Ulster County Legislator. This connection has prompted calls for transparency and fairness in the investigation.
