Community Connect is always here to hook you up and help you out with resources you can use… today, we’re talking about free programs for culture and fun planned for this year at one of Chicago’s favorite spot for tourists, Navy Pier!
Navy Pier has announced free events and public programming for the whole year in their mission to serve Chicago as a cultural district.
From free outdoor movies in the park and free jazz concerts to art installations and dance performances, they’re aiming to be the People’s Pier—a year-round destination for free events.
This year, that starts with Aim High: Soaring with the Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit which is open now through January 20th at the Chicago Children’s Museum. It honors the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen while exploring STEAM concepts through hands-on play and imagination. They're also have another exhibit, Black Wings: American Dreams of Flight, that chronicles the story of African Americans who, despite facing racial barriers, attained great achievements in aviation history. From brave pioneers of the 1910s to today’s astronauts, this exhibit celebrates the fact that flying is not limited by race.
And if you're still off and entertaining the family, the outdoor holiday lights and fun of Light Up the Lake is open through tomorrow at Navy Pier with an ice slide, craft workshops, and fireworks tonight!
