A one-year-old boy was allegedly "beat like a man" by his mom's boyfriend during an incident that left the toddler with a traumatic brain injury, family said per WPXI.

Kybrel, 1, was hospitalized in November after authorities found him unresponsive in a Pittsburgh apartment where he was being babysat by 24-year-old Lyndon Henderson, his mother's boyfriend.

Kybrel's mother said she left her son with Henderson while she was at work. When she returned home, the mother said she found Kybrel unresponsive on the couch.

Kybrel was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple bruises, and broken neck vertebra. The one-year-old was put on a ventilator because his brain was deprived of oxygen and swelling. He was also placed on a feeding tube and is currently in a medically-induced coma.

Henderson initially told police that Kybrel fell on the floor after he spun him in circles and placed him on the couch. The man also told authorities that the toddler recovered and was smiling after the incident.

Police arrested Henderson on charges of assault in November. His charges were later upgraded to attempted homicide.

Kybrel's doctor told officials that his injuries were “100% unequivocally the result of child abuse.”

“My office will always seek justice for victims,” Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh told the outlet in a statement. “Children are innocent and our most vulnerable, and I will prosecute offenders who commit crimes against them vigorously and to the fullest extent the law allows.”

After seeing her grandson in the hospital, Carla Darrell, Kybrel's grandmother, said: “It wasn’t good."

He was on all kinds of machines. He was beat like a man. A man beat my grandson," Darrell said. “He didn’t do [anything]. There was nothing possible he could’ve [done] to do this to him."
