Temper Tantrum: Leftists Plan January 20th Protests

One of the most memorable meltdowns by the left during the first Trump presidency was on his first day in office. Thousands of angry liberals took to the streets in D.C. for the "Women's March" on January 20, 2017 to protest Trump's inauguration. The event included women wearing pink vagina-shaped hats, Ashley Judd ranting about Hitler, and Madonna threatening to blow up the White House. Now, it appears the left is trying to recreate that moment. A coalition of far-left groups like the Democrat Socialists of America, CodePink and the Palestinian Youth Movement are banding together to organize a day of protests across the country on Jan. 20 as Trump takes the oath of office for the second time.

This year's effort seems far more fringe than the one eight years ago, as the anti-Trump movement was largely rejected by most of America in the 2024 election. It's also notable that while the left is pushing its own 'insurrection' on January 20, the Biden DOJ is still prosecuting Trump supporters over the January 6, 2021 Capitol breach. Trump pledged to put a stop to that when he takes office, recently telling NBC News he will issue pardons to January 6th protesters on his first day in office. "How long is it, three to four years...these people have been in (prison) for years," Trump said. "And they're in a filthy, disgusting place, that shouldn't even be allowed to be open."

A handful of Democrat lawmakers are planning to boycott Trump's inauguration, but that number is also down from four years ago. As writer Beth Brelje of The Federalist describes it, this is "a group of groups, recruiting agitators, bound together by identity politics and a penchant for street theater...this group has been making noise for years, and no one is listening."
