Do you know that dealing with the border and illegal immigration is an even-higher? - priority now than it was during the election?
According to an AP poll, even more Americans say that, by God, they want this border closed and this illegal immigration stopped- than said so last fall.
Which is why he should encourage congress to do the border patrol reconciliation bill first- pass it by mid-February and prove to the American people republicans are listening to them-
And-by the way-this is why congressional republicans should try to pass a second, stand-alone bill on the border and visa abuses immediately after the reconciliation bill is passed.
It would be-such a stroke of genius: enforcement only. Closing and controlling the border for good. Ending bogus asylum. Reforming our visa programs and implementing biometric visas...etc.
Narrow bill. Five to ten very enforcement items only. Border and illegal entry only. And put it in front of the dems in both chambers and force them to vote on it.
Now is the moment that the public can put maximum pressure on those dem senators to agree to go along with it and clear the filibuster hurdle. We’d only need seven dems out of 47 to cooperate.
You don’t need a single dem to vote in favor in the house-but a few would- given their constituencies and home states. You’d need seven dems to go along in the senate if Schumer and company really wanted to block it. But there are. Some reasonable democrats in that senate. Who might finally want to resolve this issue.
I’ll remind you that all sorts of things we need to permanently end this problem cannot be put into the reconciliation bill. They need to be passed another way. Normal process.
And so- strike while the iron is hot. Lock in the reconciliation wins-and take advantage of the public mood-and the moment-by finding seven senate democrats to go along with you-and for the first time in u-s history- engrain border enforcement into law in a very strong way.
Yesterday, just as an early ‘virtue signal’, if you will-
Mike Johnson and the republicans in congress passed the Laken Riley act. They’ve passed it before-only to have Chuck Schumer refuse to bring it up in the senate.
He didn’t even want to subject his members to a vote on it. Refused to bring it up after the house passed it.
Well, Schumer can’t block the vote now, even if democrats can use the filibuster to block the Laken Riley act from becoming law.
But- as evidence the dems are going to be forced to seem reasonable -short term-
I would bet you that- once John Thune holds the vote- at good number of Chuck Schumer’s dems will be willing to vote for this.
It’ll be an early, interesting test, as to ‘how dug in’ on this anti-American, extreme Biden-era agenda the top democrats in the party remain.
It really will. At some point, i want to talk about how the democrats have a clear choice here-as we enter the Trump era, they can either cooperate on the ‘easy and logical’ stuff that the American people want-or they can continue to be arrogant, hateful jags and refuse. That’s the path that led to their significant defeat in November.
Now is the time for choosing, if you will....
Will Schumer and Jefferies and the dems wise up and cooperate on...closing the border...deporting criminal illegals.... lowering crime...helping to lower prices.... etc.
Or will they dig in and continue this genuinely ‘anti-America’, socialist progressive path they’ve been on.
Whether Schumer and dems can agree that criminal illegal aliens should be arrested and sent back...is a good early test.
That’s what this Laken Riley act does.
And-to their credit-48 democrats in the house voted along with republicans yesterday to pass this.
Still- 159 democrats did not. They still want to live in America in which foreigners who are caught committing crimes and victimizing Americans here- are just let back out onto the streets immediately by weak prosecutors and/or dumped back onto the streets after their jail stints. What a dumb position to take.
But about three quarters of the democrat house caucus did.
Still-some dems were reasonable. If one-fourth of Schumer’s senate dems are reasonable- Thune can eclipse any filibuster and the Laken Riley act can pass this time.
It’s just the smart thing to do, people. And so, will at least seven senate democrats be smart enough to do it?
Heck- chuck Schumer, himself, should be voting for this, given that he represents NY State, and they have had a rash of terrible stories related to illegal criminals stabbing people on the street. The woman who was burned to death on the subway...etc.
If Schumer doesn’t vote for this, he’s not following the wishes of his own NY constituents.
The lead ‘woke’ socialist in the house, Pramila Jayapal, insisted in a floor speech that this bill does nothing to address the broken illegal immigration system...so she couldn’t vote for it.
How dumb. You won’t vote to take a ‘step’ toward solving the country’s illegal immigration problem? If you can’t have a leftist fix to ‘every’ immigration-related issue, we have?
That’s not even a serious argument.
The senate should take this Laken Riley act up Friday- and so- we will know quickly whether Schumer and his senate democrats have-any-
Pro-America common sense left in their heads.
