Drake says a series of leaked DM's that show him talking about LeBron James are fake.
On Tuesday, January 7, designer Chris Blake Griffith posted screenshots of his alleged conversation with Drizzy on Instagram. During their exchange, Griffith tried to compare his situation with Steffon Diggs to Drake's issues with his label. In response, the Canadian artist said his issues were more like if Nike was "funding a campaign about LeBron cheating on his wife."
"Not adidas or Reebok," he continued. "Nike the company he been with since he started... my situation is not no street s**t."
Drake mentioned the hypothetical situation a few days after he aired his grievances against LeBron James on wax. In his "Fighting Irish" freestyle produced by Conductor Williams, Drizzy goes off about the people who have stabbed him in the back in the months following his beef with Kendrick Lamar. Although he never namedropped, Drake's lyrics led fans to believe he was talking about his old friends James and former Toronto Raptor player DeMar DeRozan. Both NBA stars publicly sided with K.Dot after they appeared "The Pop Out" in L.A. last June.
"Talkin' 'bout we family, well, I'm not the cousin to visit/God forbid we ever got to tarnish your public image," Drake raps on the now-deleted freestyle. "All that brother talk as if I really discovered a sibling/Six degrees, my memory's retrievin' our humble beginnings."
After Griffith's post went viral, DJ Akademiks took to X and informed his followers that the DM's were fake. The media personality, who has received credible tips from the OVO camp in the past, credited Drizzy as his source.
"This is a fake DM," Ak wrote. "Drake called buddy a Rat..... he got mad and made up some fake DM to try to make the blogs and go viral. end of story. Source - THE BOY."
