The New York Court of Appeals has denied a motion filed by President-elect Donald Trump to put a stay on the sentencing in the New York v. Trump case.
Trump filed a motion to stay the Jan. 10 sentencing with the New York Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court of Appeals denied Trump's request Thursday morning. Trump is now awaiting a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court on his emergency motion.
In May 2024, Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in relation to payments made to former porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
New York Judge Juan Merchan set Trump's sentencing date for Friday, Jan. 10, just 10 days before his inauguration on Jan. 20.
