Brevard County Woman Arrested For Assaulting Woman Who Wouldn't Give Her Christmas Bonus

(Titusville, FL) --A woman upset over not getting a Christmas bonus is facing charges in Brevard County. The sheriff's office announced this week that Heather Nelson was arrested for hurting an 83-year-old woman last month. Sheriff Wayne Ivey says Nelson wanted a 500-dollar Christmas bonus from the woman whose house she cleans, but the woman said 'no.' That's when Nelson allegedly grabbed the woman's checkbook out of her hand, stole a check and some Christmas cards the woman was going to mail that had checks inside. Ivey says Nelson almost broke the woman's wrist. Investigators say Nelson wrote herself a 14-hundred dollar check and paid her rent with the woman's credit card. Nelson is facing charges that include aggravated battery on a person over 65 and grand theft.

Gaetz May Run For Governor

(Pensacola, FL) --Matt Gaetz may be getting closer to decide what his next move is. The former Panhandle congressman said this week he's starting to think about running for governor in 2026. He says he has a compelling vision for the state, and he understands how to fix the insurance problem. Gaetz says lawmakers should not hand the keys to the state over to the insurance industry. He also says if he runs, he would be the most pro-consumer candidate on the Republican side. Gaetz tells the Tampa Bay Times he still has to pray on it and discuss it with his wife. He tells the New York Times he has also discussed the issue with President-Elect Trump.

Family Accuses BSO Deputy Of Punching Elderly Relative

(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- A Broward County deputy is accused of punching a man in his 70s. The sheriff's office says it's reviewing the alleged incident at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Pompano Beach's Richard Messina says he was in his car at the Arrivals section on Thanksgiving waiting for his son and daughter-in-law when a deputy told him to move. The deputy wound up writing Messina a citation, and according to the deputy, Messina hit him in the hand. The deputy ordered Messina out of the car, and, while trying to arrest him, allegedly punched the 73-year-old in the face and knocked him out. Messina and his family have hired a lawyer who says the entire situation could have been avoided with clear communication, simple human decency and understanding.
