A group of teens and young adults in Lincoln Heights, Ohio, spent all day Tuesday clearing snow from driveways for senior citizens trapped after a severe winter storm. The volunteers, part of the Heights Movement, went door-to-door offering help and cleared snow from 18 houses, providing relief to vulnerable residents unable to leave their homes.
Heights Movement director Daronce Daniels stresses the importance of the effort, saying, "We have a lot of seniors in our community, so the young folks... want to make sure that we shoveled out their driveways." One of the recipients of their act of kindness, 68-year-old Valerie Franklin describes the help as a "miracle," recalling her fears of being unable to leave her home or get emergency assistance. The snowstorm left her feeling trapped and scared before the volunteers arrived.
Franklin expressed deep gratitude for the volunteers’ efforts, calling it a “blessing” that felt like an answer to her prayers. Daniels explains that there’s a strong sense of community in Lincoln Heights and residents know they can count on the group for support, adding, "They definitely love seeing young people showing up and giving them a service that can help them get moving."
