Teen Boy Injured from Shooting Involving Texas DPS Trooper in Humble

A teenage boy is injured after being shot in Humble by a Texas DPS trooper who said the teen ran before turning towards the trooper and reaching for his waistband.

A Texas DPS spokesperson said the trooper pulled over a vehicle on Will Clayton Parkway near Village Tower Drive at around 11 a.m. Friday morning. The trooper noticed potential criminal drug activity and ordered for the female driver and the 17-year-old male passenger to get out of the car.

Authorities say the trooper then began patting down the 17-year-old and felt what he believed to be a pistol. At that point, according to DPS, the teen ran off before turning back towards the trooper and reaching for his waistband. The trooper then opened fire and hit the teen in the upper body.

The trooper rendered first aid until EMS arrived and took the teen to a local hospital. The teen was reported to be conscious and talking.

A pistol was recovered at the scene.

DPS says the 17-year-old will likely face charges but it's unclear if the female passenger will or not. The trooper will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
